Have been waiting so long for this.

This is so academic, but also so moving, revelatory, and vindicating.

Really fun both as capsule art history and accessible doorways into conceptual art and technique.

An absolute slog. Not as brutal as the extended opening sequence, but I’m struggling.

I wanted to love Flamethrowers and just couldn’t penetrate it but was mostly breathless for this whole first motorcycle essay. Also how does she look 20 years younger than she is?

Among the few helpful distractions right now.

In book 1 I didn’t understand what was happening and in book 2 it doesn’t seem like anything is happening.

1/3 of the way in and this is just disorienting

I resent this book so much.

I dunno man, it’s kinda blah and cringe. And maybe my least fave cross-section of music culture. 💔

I don’t know how big the target market is for...gonzo journalism about Bartok? But I’m along for the ride.

This is a truly remarkable book, like something I dreamed into being.

Seems relevant: “the uncontrolled lives of mushrooms are a gift—and a guide—when the controller life we thought we had failed.”

So far this is like how I imagine 50 shades of gray if there were vampires and no sex.

Very beautiful, like catching your breath on the sensory details.

So far, so atmospheric.

This is good. The voice in the notes can be a bit much but I don’t believe in holding excess against anyone.

There is so much going on in this book.

I don’t even know what to say. *So much* dense and detailed work went into this with *so little* momentum or plot or human character.
