I am absolutely loving how personal the field journeys are, the reflections and comments make it feel so much more tangible

It's so hot I can't really focus much on reading, even though this is SUCH a good book

Once I properly sit down to read this book it'll be a breeze. It's a familiar historical writing style, although the "some historian said" is SO fucking irritating. JUST FUCKING SAY WHO SAID WHAT YOU'RE QUOTING, JFCCCCCCC MANNNNNN

I'm so glad I've waited with coming back to this book for two years because I understand so much more about ships now and don't have to constantly look into a dictionary. hashtag practical sailing applications

It's funny that The Terror fandom really is below the level of this book in regard to discussions about "how old does a corpse need to be before you can freely desecrate it without any moral repercussions".

the "he's hotter/better/more deserving of being a love interest bc he's wearing nice rich man's clothes now" cliché made me a bit angry ngl

This is a very light read so far, not the loftiest of writing but certainly enjoyable

Another easy summer read, it's so nice to delve back into McGuire's historical writing

I still think this is really poorly written and some characters are extremely flat and uninteresting but it's the perfect silly no-need-to-turn-on-your-brain summer romance so I'm kinda hooked

The writing style leaves a lot to be desired but this is such a basic easy summer read it's the only thing I can pick up in this heat wave
