I MISS KFOG

This was published in November 2020, meaning Hill spent years prior to the great disaster of 2020 working on this. That said, as anyone from the Bay Area who has honestly contemplated life after the Big One, I feel like Hill's vision of the future 8 years after a disaster is a timeline simultaneously extremely accelerated yet still slow in its reconstruction.

*slamming hand on table* FAKE DATING PLOT I've always wondered why people who see themselves in contemporary romance fiction have been living like they don't need to seek out au fan-fiction for a complicated space opera for years and now I understand why, oh my gaaawwwwd, LESBIANS DID YOU KNOW WE COULD JUST EXIST IN LITERATURE WITHOUT TRAGEDY AND OYSTER METAPHORS

I've been so jealous of the women I know who can just read and click with romance novels. It turned out I just needed a book for me, a 30 year old lesbian with historically one romantic partner and mostly women friends.

I was starting to understand the main thematic conflict of this series as the disjoint between the books and the 1939 film (what becomes of Oz when you take it to the outside world of itself) but Jinjur's violence disrupted that understanding for me, interested to see where this goes

This book rocks so much what a delight. Holds up 90% and maybe 95% if you decide that this is set firmly in 1967 Berkeley.

Absolutely deranged! I love getting into the heads of people before me. I love learning more about the history of the Women's Liberation movement. I love learning genre history. Each story is like watching an old B-movie about a since resolved or reframed cultural fear (bearing a disabled child in a world without disability rights or services, strict gender roles, 'overpopulation' etc. etc.).
