i love this so far. i love these quirky little old men in books who eat mushrooms and take vacations on park benches.

"Horrific as it was, the present dark, I was afraid to leave it for the other, permanent dark--jelly and bloat, the muddy pit. I had seen the shadow of it on Bunny's face--stupid terror; the whole world opening upside down; his life exploding in a thunder of crows and the sky expanding empty over his stomach like a white ocean. Then nothing. Rotten stumps, sowbugs crawling in the fallen leaves. Dirt and dark." p488-9

UGH she started drinking again and i knew she would but it's still disappointing. it's interesting how the reader never learns some characters' names, and i wonder if that signifies their relevance to the main character. for example, she never calls paul's sons by their names? they're her step kids? but to her, they're just "paul's boys"... this book is full of 🚩🚩🚩

i dont actually know what page i got to in this bc i left it in the library. i hope i can find it again. it's a rly quick read that i found on a random bookshelf and tbh i thought the protagonist was a man for a looong time, even when her friend said smt abt a girls night out. lowk a disappointment that she's a straight woman when i thought she was a gay man, but at least she's not a straight man given the storyline.

"You see... a pragmatic problem demands pragmatic solutions. You must realize we have your best interests at heart"

this was an interesting concept, but im surprised by how little the protagonist, dick morrison, broke the rules. yet he was slightly less bland than the other protagonists so far, and there was even a little character development? except he described his son as half of a person-

tbh i was relieved when a certain someone finally died? don't wanna name names and spoil it but i'm talking about a certain incestuous someone who tries to push any guilt for his actions onto other people and would make a horrible parent?

i finished the story but skipped over 46% of it... will try to go back and read the rest until it becomes unbearably boring

i'm reading this for class but we're skipping over (teacher is summarizing) a bunch of chapters bc they're allegedly long and boring. so im 60% through the book but ive only actually read a third of that. i might go back and read the chapters i skipped afterward if they aren't too slow.

it's interesting but very wordy. i think there's prob a lot more mlm romance going on than shelley intended
