I like that Iyanla provides personal context for the misaligned and mistakes she made regarding communication with her own daughter and family. I appreciate the she admits that spiritual healing is a journey and it's important to remember that we are all walking our own paths and can't rush someone along their own.

Thank you Ms.Vanzant as always!

I think some of us get so caught up in other roles that we forget who we are. how to be playful and even discover things that we like about ourselves and our partners.

I'm like 4 chapters into this book and it's another that randomly decided to listen to. I like it, it's completely different than what I was expecting looking at the cover. It has inspired me to think about my relationship with myself and within my body. There are questions attached to the end of the chapters that sparked important internal conversation and I am excited to finish.

Lmao , there’s really a special place in my heart for black male authors. Especially those that dabble in fiction. I couldn’t leave the library without this one after reading the back to learn that the author is currently incarcerated and uses writing as a method of art therapy. Shout out to him. I’ll let you know if I like the story.

I also like how this story isn’t sad (yet). Just capturing life of woman as they are and as thy navigate becoming through the normal stages of life. (Getting your period, going to your first party, having your first live-in boyfriend, being a widow) I love it so much.

I feel like this novel is a blueprint for being a southern woman. I say that because throughout the novel there are recipes and rituals spread throughout and those feel real. I appreciate the instructions.

and it's cute to think about romanticizing your first period instead of thinking about it with fear of womanhood. Indigo talking to her dolls about life is so sweet. (having a party with all her dolls to celebrate becoming a womanhood) that's sweet.

I like hearing stories about girls playing with Dolls and exploring what it might be to "be grown". It's sweet to think about.

I think my new favorite genre is african american fiction. There is truly something special about it. Hearing stories that feel like they can be told by my grandma or older cousin. It feels good.

I also really like how the book ended with a call to action for us to forgive each other and let go of the past. (past hurts from prior generations that are still being held on to)

This book did give me a new mission, to find this VHS titled Sister, I’m Sorry. It's not anywhere I can find for streaming. (this book honestly gives me a new appreciate for VHS, not everything made it to be converted to DVD and streaming but that doesn't make it any less valuable)

I like how this books provides context for movements and moments in history that have been overlooked/forgotten. This last chapter has been really impactful. I like the mention of the "I'm Sorry" movement, started by black men. I honestly think that needs to be brought back to life.

One of the less-publicized facets of the Million Man March was black men proclaiming the power of the words "I'm sorry."

Marchers apologized for men who cheat. Men who beat their wives. Deadbeat dads. Child abusers.

I do think it's interesting to think about what the "gender war" or main disagreements between the sexes amongst the black community and a lot of it is ruined in sexuality. (what's accepted and what's not) (whether it's homosexuality or what is considered rape/rapist) and I think that's really interesting.
