Already a much bigger fan of this than I was of Castle in The Air.

almost 200 pages before any mention of Sophie or Howl. It’s truly dire.

This is Rough. I’m only reading it because I own it, and I would feel bad just watching it waste away. Abdullah is unlikable, but that’s probably just because the book itself is racist. The vibes are rancid. Not to mention fatphobic. It’s only 200 something pages or I might just use Goodreads new DNF shelf.

There are few characters more fucked than Luis is.

I love how the movie is like a fairytale and this is genuinely so funny. Howl why are you so whiny and so Wales.

If RF Kuang is gonna do anything she’s gonna make me feel bad for some gay men who are right person; no time.

I actually read the first one eons ago (August 2024). Sometimes I feel thrown out of the universe by how contemporary the dialogue is, but I must suspend my disbelief at least that much because it’s not like they’re actually speaking english either.

That infanticide content warning was doing a lot for the suspense in this book, idk where we go from here.

The terf cult is actually scary.

Against my better judgement, I’m giving splatterpunk another chance. All this toe talk is already making me question this decision.

This book’s saving grace is how absolutely deluded the narrator is. I like that he argues like a lawyer subconsciously, like it’s second nature. I like that it’s never occurred to him that he’s not empathetic, that his low level of empathy is not the norm.

This book is so glaringly obviously written by a man. At a time when no one asked, he describes his wife’s boobs (he says breasts) as “defeated by age.” And I cannot stand here and pretend the author wrote that as a character decision for Andrew Barber.

Oh I love ML Rio so dearly. I can taste the stuff I liked about IWWV in here!!! The vagueness and mystery of what happened to Gil and The Kills. Gills death. I love it so much.

I’m reading this book SLOWLY, I have decided. I kind of sped through Katabasis and I think my enjoyment of it suffered.

Absolutely LEGENDARY lock in from the protagonist. I’m lowkey hyped.

If you, dear reader, like when miscommunication is the lone cause for tension between your two main characters for over half of the book, this one is for you!

Boy oh boy can RF Kuang write an unlikable but still understandable protagonist. Chapter 20 gutted me. It was tough to read Girl-Who-Thinks-She’s-Above-Feminism learn that feminism is for her too :[

BIG fan of when in fiction they cite other fiction as fact. Like Dante and Orpheus are premiere first hand accounts of hell. That’s beautiful.

I don’t like this repeated trend of CLIFFHANGER->entire chapter of backstory I probably could have figured out myself->back where we left off. I might just skip the exposition chapter next time.

Reading the large print version because it’s the version I got for Christmas and I’m not picky. It’s very pleasant it sits in my lap.

If Katniss was in yellowjackets they wouldn’t have eaten anybody, but Misty Quigley still would have been a freak. And these are the more normal things that cross my mind while I read books.

Guys I’m so scared, I have so many vague spoilers from years of cultural osmosis but guys, idk if or when some of these characters are gonna die. OR WHY. I know my man Peeta is in for worse. I’m distressed.

District 11 makes me weepy. That arena was so suited to Thresh and Rue, the forest, the birds, the tracker jackers. In this book I was ALSO weepy while Katniss recounted their lives.

Rereading this!! Gonna read the series up until Sunrise on the reaping unless i can find a paperback version of it.

I don’t think my review of this book will be very insightful, but it’s kind of crazy.

God rest Patrick Bateman you would have loved veneers.

This book is kind of appalling and terrible.
