The best way I can describe this book so far is as grounded. Dr. Garrett uses reason and an understanding of the cultural background of the OT to teach the reader how to read the OT without falling into ditches that create more problems than they solve.

Alright so now buy this book for the chapter on the Law and on issues in narrative dealing with biblical allusions

His chapter on the Law alone is worth purchasing this book! Incredibly helpful.

A strange mixture of really helpful to me and strongly disagreeing with parts at the same time.

This book asks a lot of the questions I've been asking which I'm grateful for! It's fairly obvious, though, that the author prioritizes the MT, does not think much of the LXX, and really doesn't think much of early Christian interpretation of the OT, which I really don't find fair.

Great exegesis of Romans 4-5 critiquing the increasingly popular view that justification doesn't really have to do with imputation, but rather with "being made righteous" so as to collapse justification into sanctification, rather than maintain justification as the foundation for "being made righteous."

The place Schreiner shines is in his careful, detailed, meticulous exegesis of Paul's soteriology that is unrivaled in precision by other Pauline scholars, and particularly by the less-than-reformed ones.

"God's beneficence is captured well in Luke 12:32: 'Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.' The Father's tender care for his weak and needy people is represented by giving them the kingdom. He does not give the kingdom reluctantly or grudgingly but joyfully bestows it on his people."

Honestly, seeing Jesus as God really is the most fundamental piece to understanding the NT and its relationship to the OT.

Honestly, NT Wright's way of doing biblical theology, which the Bible Project and people like John Mark Comer have been heavily influenced by, I am becoming disillusioned with. It's not wrong, it's a true dimension, it's just not enough *nor is it the most fundamental dimension to the Bible.* It is *a* dimension, but not *the* dimension like Wright wants to say it is.

Welp... I understand why leftward leaning, politically concerned Christians like NT Wright so much.
