Ah, the book by Nabokov. Geezer just gets straight to noncing. Like, just straight to it.

yooooooooooooooooooooooooo

yooooooooo

Boring

“Fool! Simpleton! You who have known neither sorrow nor pleasure; who have trifled your life away!” p. 110

“It was a silly, silly dream, being unhappy.” p. 73

“The death of the soul.”

“Look the unseen bade him, the voice which now communicated with him who was the greatest of mankind, Septimus, lately taken from life to death, the Lord who had come to renew society, who lay like a coverlet, a snow blanket smitten only by the sun, for ever unwasted, suffering for ever, the scapegoat, the eternal sufferer, but he did not want it…” p. 21

I can’t believe how much fun I’m having

This guy’s a weirdo, you know. It’s like he lives on the outside of society. Wait a minute…

Well why’s he done that then

It’s so… readable?

Read on my lunch break, feeling very productive 🤠

“If a man had a tough, hairy hide like a bear, his world would be different indeed, Shimamura thought. It was through a thin, smooth skin that man loved. Looking out at the evening mountains, Shimamura felt sentimental longing for the human skin.” p. 100

Slow and steady wins the race 🤪

“Ah, this woman is in love with me – but he was annoyed with himself for the thought.” p. 64

Employment gained now I can read again

Warra attention span

Wanted to read way more but instead took a break to make a carbonara. Boy, these Clothbound Classics are garbage, huh?

Fifty-page chapter split into maybe four paragraphs lmao bruv

Misspellings of “smoke” and “Wythenshawe” (grr). No wonder they reprinted this thing, not to mention that the images in the newer edition are much cleaner and much more crisp. And to think I went out of my way to find a copy of the old edition lmaooooo. The end of chapter VII reminded me of that magical scene in The Master and Margarita, which was very pleasant

Ok THIS is the most conventional chapter thus far, either that’s the gimmick or I’m getting too used to this kind of prose

Most conventional chapter thus far

A surfeit of erudition, this geezer displays… (but why? Why indeed…)
