It’s almost as if this story is a water-downed and flatten version of the Poppy War. The protagonist is like Rin but without the depth.

I really like it so far. The disease named the rot is fascinating with a mixture of the physical and spiritual; it also showcases the socioeconomic and class system of the world, without the usual “there are rich people and poor people”.

I’m really struggling to connect with the characters as well as the plot. Why should I root for Zetian, simply because she’s a girl?
