DNF there’s nothing here. no engaging material. white supremacy in every corner of every page. had to stop so that my brain didn’t smooth over entirely.

it is an interesting look into day-to-day lives of average Brits who were living in India during the decade leading into independence. a somewhat uncommon perspective, but it’s rarity does not supersede the orientalism and Eurocentrism that drips from its anecdotes. Yes it is engaging, but the racism and British nationalism frequently distract from the humor and intrigue it possesses.
