Started reading this years ago but forgot to pick it back up so I’m restarting it

was getting bored from the prolonged side stories, but the last two chapters had the murakami twist I was looking for!! moving from a 3-4 🌟

more lore into Nutmeg and Cinnamons characters, a bit bored. Wishing we heard more from Malta and Creta tbh

more side stories and random news articles with faint similarities of hints of things going on in the main plot line

I have not a clue of where this story is going but I can’t put it down

even more intrigued by May Kasahara and Setsuko (“Creta Kano”)

I want to know more about Malta Kano asap

was super confused by the first chapter cuz it’s almost exactly the same as the first chapter in “The Elephant Vanishes”. I’m excited to read the full version of the short story in its entirety!

finished the 1st part and I’m still feeling confused.
I can easily see how these are his first two stories written as someone who has read a good handful of his books. curious to see where the second story goes, and if it’s as choppy and sporadic as “hear the wind sing”.
I enjoyed trying to understand his writing as he figured out his process, but many parts felt like it was missing world building info.

bros learning how to extract human odors in order to murder this girl and steal her scent, for his own satisfaction of just being able to complete the scientific process. bros mental process is the least bit malicious but his actions/intent are deteriorating the more he learns.
