This book is so boring. Anne is so painfully normal and relatable and that is genuinely the worst part. I have seen criticism that this book is boring and offers no extra information on the Holocaust so why read it and I honestly believe that is where the value in this book lies. It is boring and normal because the nazis targeted innocent people.

Now take this with a grain of salt, It is just a huge pet peeve of mine when an author mentions other better books in their novel in an attempt to make the characters seem smart and well read. I have a hard time believing 3 college seniors are mentioning the Great Gatsby this much, also quoting Joyce is way on the nose. It comes across that King wants to be seen as well read not her characters. :P

Its very hard to enjoy an okay book about being sad when you constantly compare, allude and reference books that our more iconic, better written and enjoyable than the book you are currently reading.

Perhaps the constant bell jar references are to avoid being compared or a tongue and cheek way of being like oh i know its like the bell jar haha. But whatever the point is its not working.
