The causes of Bacon's Rebellion seem to be so various and at times, unclear, but overall the effects of motivating the upper-class of 18th century America are clear as day. We presently live in that feudalism.

I just listen to this while I workout at the gym but I stop and take notes between sets. Feels like I'm learning a lot in a short timespan!

So many arguments made for the unnatural nature of slavery, also great context for indigenous culture in America

Kind of horrifying how everything about our culture is superficial to Native Americans and living in harmony with the earth. Overall it seems like they highly valued agreeableness which is non-existent in Western cultures

Mmmm, fun. So glad I picked this up. I have a fond memory of reading this as a kid at the public library.

It's kinda funny in a book where you learn about the body I still don't get how energy jumps from the bones to the bloodstream

Just finished the chapter on the effect of yoga regulating HRV (heart rate variability), there were some graphs on page 270 but I feel like I don't understand exactly why yoga is integral to that and healing a traumatized brain. But it was enough personal/real life examples with condensed science for me to think it's worthwhile and not a theory.

The negative reviews on this book bother me. Most say Bessel doesn't denounce the war crimes of Vietnam Vets. But on 246, Bessel recounts listening to a Vet recall killing a child—triggering his own memory of a kid next door that was killed by Nazis. Really annoyed you could read a textbook on psychology and conclude Bessel is unfeeling to the crimes his patients commit.

Amazing textbook for better understanding of the mind for years to come. To read this book, one must build a specific tolerance for repeatedly reading the stories of victims wronged and focus on the psychological implications of that trauma. Somewhat annoyed all the negatives reviews are "he didn't denounce the Vietnam war"

Reading is much easier than the audiobook. Started tabbing important pages, this book is exploding with information

Finished the first half of the book. While Pink makes great points for optimism of human nature some points seem cherry picked. The hope that the boomer generation could argue for better working conditions seems moot by the pandemic, and inevitable for a 9+ year book. Started the toolkit and has some nice actionable items within.

The layout of the books three page chapters is helpful in such a distracting time. Rubin is effective in coaxing the inner child out through his writing. A great book to return to reading with.
