From the character development of Roland to Lord Alvin's appearance, I can't stop reading.

Pola is such a strong and complex character - her temper and willingness to speak her mind make her often misunderstood. As you read, you'll understand why Pola is the way she is, as she adjusts to her new role at Haciendas Las Mercedas. So far this book tackles some really important themes like colorism, trauma, oppression, and desire for freedom. The interactions between Pola and Simon seem very familiar to me.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this story so far - Edwidge Danticat's writing is captivating. At just 22% in, Annabelle and Sebastian's journey has me invested and eager to find out what happens next.

This might be the first book I read in under 24hrs. This book has my full attention! Kierra deserves the most lavish birthday celebration.

Margot is so pretentious. Anna and Liv are so much more likeable so far, but they are definitely hiding something. These ladies are so shady towards one another!🤣 So much for new friendships. Maybe Margot has her reasons for her personality. I'm not going to be too hard on Margot just yet.

Never thought I would be so invested in the characters.

I really like how the author conveys the vulnerability of the characters. Some of the characters are so unlikable. Let's face it, most of us know men like the Van Laars and the McLellans. John Paul and Peter really triggered me. Looking forward to finishing today.

I'm deeply invested in the storyline. The characters are very interesting. The Strike terrifies me, lol.
This book is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I'm enjoying it so far.
