idk if I really get this book yet, but I think that as it goes on it will make more sense. so far it's just kind of really sad.

It turns out that scene is even harder to read than it is to watch

This book does such a good job of describing what PTSD feels like. The dull ache, the racing thoughts. Thinking yourself into a hole you can't get out of.

This book is just like that meme I saw on Instagram. “My Roman Empire is actually my entire life. I can’t move on from a single thing that’s happened to me.”

This book is stabbing me in the heart and twisting the knife. Charlie is in inpatient treatment for his mental illness and we get a whole section of journaling from Nick, about how constantly worried he is about Charlie and the experience he could be having there. It hurts so bad to know you’ve inadvertently scared the people you love.

idk if it’s bc I watched the show first but so far this book kind of feels like it’s just checking events off a checklist, but I am hopeful for the rest of it

I’m going to read these books over and over

dragging myself by my hands alone to finish this book, it is brutal. especially now. I'm having nightmares of trying to protect my mom in situations she will never be in.

The chapter on Mexico made me very emotional and proud to be Mexican. Here are my favorite quotes:

Disinterring the dead every three years sounds scary and off putting until you put it in the context of your loved ones. I would love to see my grandpa in person again, even if he looks a little different now.
