Listening to the audio book version of this, and thank goodness because I’d have no idea how these names are pronounced otherwise. Saw Laura had read this book recently. I’d never heard of it before that!

I hope I have time to write a substack article about this series and The Handmaid’s Tale. But I won’t have time because I never have time.

Getting back into this. Kind of annoyed I’ve left it so long because I’ve half forgotten who some of these characters are

This is going to be a hard read. If I behaved like this as a political staffer, someone would have punched me in the face long ago.

This isn’t a fully formed thought yet, but there seem to be very few good female friendships in Austen’s books. There’s a sort of “pick me” mentality with her heroine’s like Anne, Lizzy and Elinor. She just has to make her other female characters absolutely horrid and stupid. Her ideal woman is a pretty 2 dimensional expression of femininity.

Ugh. This is so heavy. So much violence, it’s hard to keep going. I probably shouldn’t have read these two books back to back, but here we are.

I expected this to be crap, but it’s actually pretty good. It’s not trying to be a literary masterpiece, and I appreciate that.

So many problems with this. Jeanine has the potential to actually be as intelligent as Tris says she is, but the author is either too dumb or lazy to explore Jeanine’s need to eradicate free will. Even the movie does a slightly better job at exploring this. It’s actually insulting to the intelligence of teenagers to sell them this crap. I have many other issues with it and not enough time to explore them all.

This has got to be some of the stupidest dialogue I’ve ever heard in a book (but not as bad as My Oxford Year hehehe), and yet I keep listening because I’m a slut for a dystopian novel. And I will probably listen to the others in the series too.

Started audiobook. Lowkey regretting wasting an audible credit on it after only 5 minutes in, but here we go.

Audiobook again. Always reminded of Clueless.

Henry Crawford is a predator. I'm aware that's well known, but I just need to say it because he's being insufferable right now. Also, everyone is an evil prick. I don't think Fanny is good either, but she's at least a victim of an abusive household, so can be pitied.

Audiobook again. Edmund is a massive dick. I feel like he’s being portrayed as the man Fanny will eventually end up with, but he is a massive dick. They all are. I think I’ve watched the movie once, but I’ve forgotten what the plot is so it feels like reading it for the first time. I’m up to the part where they’re planning for their play and Edmund has decided he’ll now be in it.

I’m sure this isn’t an original thought, but is Elizabeth bullying an autistic guy? Is this what this book is about? Poor guy is just socially inept.
