He almost lost me, but then he started talking about the humans who are just a flock of birds connected by radio waves, and the symbiotic fish-arachnids who love each other so much they have telepathy across planets, and I was back on board.

This one’s a slow read for me, because it’s equal measure ripe for analysis, and infuriating. It’s deeply introspective about the process of composing a Utopia. It’s a labyrinth from which I can’t find my way out.

“De te fabula narratur,” still? I was a fool to think that I could sit down over the course of a week and read Marx in any way that would allow me to absorb the richness of his thought. I’ll be continuing to gestate on this… forever? The elements of most immediate interest to me are in the chapters on “So-Called Primitive Accumulation.” Curious about amphibious Sutherland.

There’s a lush abundance of detailed moments, some that coalesce and some that do not. Some moments ache with beauty, some moments just sit there. I err on the side of enjoyment, but I’ll confess that I feel a little put-off by some of the parts that feel like gender stereotypes.
