A bit disappointed so far, and ik that’s a bit nitpicky, but this reads so stereotypical so far and I hate that. I was rlly wanting a main character that felt different, Chinese inspired world, an epic fantasy with magical tigers. Obviously I will continue reading, but it reads so much like every other book in this genre :(

Let me guess, she’s a dragon shifter? And either the Umbras are apart of her linieage and they were wrongfully villainized and the fae king she has been hyping up so much is bad, OR they actually were bad, but she is the one GOOD dragon shifter and makes a group of shifters or smth and has her own kingdom. This ends with her getting crowned, I’ll tell you that.

Sick and tired of ppl saying things are mental health rep and then it’s literally the worst, mediocre and mind numbing writing about mental illness and disabilities I’ve ever seen. First, it’s always written so the men can comfort the FMC, second, it’s always just told to us “oh no! I’m having a panic attack!!” And it like comes out of no where and it’s always random times.

Holy info dump. Whatever happen to show don’t tell. The writing really take you out of the story because it feels like someone telling you about a story instead of you witnessing the story through the characters perspective. Also I hate when “I see him like family” become romantic. That’s gross. You grew up with him and see him as a brother. Also can we stop pretending like she isn’t fated to Khaos?

The writing is juvenile. Also the words “female” and “male” are annoying :/

Why does every man want to tame her? I thought the moral was going to be like “see? Killian wanted to tame her wild side, but Stark indulges in it” which is a stupid line, to treat her like a wild thing that the men in her lives have to treat instead of her just existing and them loving her for it. But that’s even more dumb. Call me picky but both these options suck.

Why do the vampires keep calling them barbaric when they all know their country was being lead by a vampire?

Both Stark AND Meryn are coming off as so unlikable rn. Ik they are learning all that they knew was wrong but the way they are violent abt it is disgusting. Instead of just not trusting the vampires like a normal person, the vampires will be like “yea, we would never hurt a child” and their reaction is ‘I’ll kill them all! I’ll gut these vampires where they stand!!’ Like chill out?

This is clearly trying to mimic the griphon flyers vs the dragon riders in Iron Flame but it’s such a miss. We don’t know anything about Astreona and until this point, Meryn hasn’t shown any animosity towards them. So this random aggression and hate for them makes no sense. Also other than Ruby being creepy with her dad, they have all been pretty nice and Meryn and her friends have been awful for no reason.

Not to be dramatic but why are we sexualizing physical abuse. Just because he wants her to beat him up doesn’t make it right? Like this is just weird. And uncomfortable. And not cute.

I knew he wasn’t dead from literally book one. This isn’t a shock at all. Also it’s kinda melodramatic and underwhelming

So when a bunch of traitors have Meryns sister at knife point she tries to reason with them because “they are my people too” but when their enemy whome she has never really met or cared about says they actually want to help her and they want to defeat her real enemy that killed her mom, destroyed her sister, and ruined her life, she’s wanting to “slice this bitch’s head off”???? Make it make sense.

What is this whole two-book-rant abt how anger is actually always right and just and should always be used thoughtlessly? It’s not only cringe but pathetic. Anger can be a tool but it Isn’t the only fucking tool. Now IM angry bc can we stop pretending like only one person can ever be angry and it’s righteous and correct? Everyone is angry.
