Bobcat is soon to be enslaved in The Blood Jaguar’s presence when he dies, just for The Plague Year to be delayed instead of gone? Some deal that must be. I get they both didn’t have much going on in their lives, but however Jaguar’s gonna treat Bobcat while with him, gods forbid it’s an abusive relationship…

I’d like to think if Shemka Harr wasn’t so bitter to where she encouraged Bobcat to believe The Twelve Curials were more than just stories, she would have saved him plenty of mental anguish for the journey he’s on. Can’t wait to see how Curials abandoning their posts without notice is justified… if at all. Plus, Harr just leaving Bobcat doesn’t sit right with me.

Why wasn’t the origin of the 12 given to Fisher long ago? Why did Fisher not know that as a shaman? Did Ramon keep that to himself? Are the meerkats selfish? I also get Bobcat being a reluctant hero and scared at something he can’t control, but Fisher being an incessant ass to him is grinding my gears. She deserves to get beat up from Bobcat.

Why is The Blood Jaguar hell bent on causing annual death and destruction on such a wide scale when she was just already doing that to the tortured souls in her domain? She could just stick with that instead of repeating the same conflict with weaker creatures. Also the repetitiveness of how each chapter starts is sinking in: see new scenery, Bobcat has nervous thought, see new animal/curial for more info, repeat.

To think I'd get annoyed at reluctant protagonists receiving "tough love."

It's good on Garson to be kind to Bobcat after how annoyed she got with his foolishness, but if I fell for someone the same way Bobcat fell for Garson, I'd never want to see her again. Not a fan of how dickish Fisher comes off as every now and then.

I wish we got clearer insight to the practical elements of the worldbuilding, like what other specific animals live with each other. The mythos is still cool though.

I bet The Blood Jaguar’s presence in Bobcat’s head has something to do with his catnip addiction.

I have a feeling the main trio are just going to meet every Curial during their journey to get blessings and perks that'll help them defeat The Blood Jaguar.
