picked up at heathrow on the eve of my marriage in rome. fascinating to read this within the context of its time & now - was expecting some absolute hard-ass mentality internet bro type stuff (like most other stoic texts) but aurelius is shockingly even-keeled and forgiving to himself. a lot of unexpected pseudo-buddhist thought in here as well; much softer and more introspective than i had assumed it would be.

U all thought i was only reading one book this whole time.... little do u know that i have the Books app for when i don't have my paperback with me..... fools.......

very slow start

it's just like infinite jest, man -- every page is a painting. if infinite jest was surrealist hyper-description, this is postmodernism... just trying to paint an emotion directly with words, the physical words themselves / their shapes / the vowel sounds / etc. fascinating. but a slow read! lol
