Mac is the worst FMC I’ve ever read. If this series had a solid FMC, it would be phenomenal

Look, I’m invested in the plot. If it wasn’t for the world building, the FMC would ruin this for me. She’s a naive bratty twat and it’s starting to get old. But dang, I like the story and I want to know what happens.

So far so good. I haven’t read anything by this author before and I like her writing style. The FMC is a smidge bratty. More than a few times she’s mentioned her “southern upbringing /manners”, but then completely disregards them. Not a big deal, but it is annoying. But the overall story - I’m into it even though not a lot has happened (I wouldn’t say slow), I want to read more

FMC is actually the true monster of the story. She’s a shitty person and this is challenging to read. She expects/demands the MMC to change almost everything about himself and she’s still not happy and doesn’t do a single thing to try and understand him. She drags his vulnerability through the mud constantly. She sets barriers that she expects him to respect, only for her to manipulate them. She’s shit.

I can’t believe I’m saying this… all the consent talk is too much; it’s distracting and annoying. You talked about it and filled out work sheets. And Silas is supposed to be a demon but seems more like a simp. Not at all what I was expecting from an incubus romance. I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish. Honestly, it’s boring.

The FMC has flip flopped. She started off a smart, strong character doing what she has to survive. But now, just after ‘the reveal’, ugh🙄she’s a whiny, smug brat that’s lost all sense of self preservation; she’s a stereotypical booktok FMC and I can’t stand it. When did this trope become the norm?? Lady, YOU ARE ON A PIRATE SHIP

Love the idea of this world. But the FMC is the ultimate pick-me. The dialogue is so sooo cringe; it’s painful. She volunteers for 17 mins and it’s literally mentioned how wonderful she is in every single conversation. Really?? I’m still not sure what the actual plot is… all I’m doing is reading about their day-to-day and it’s pretty boring

I mean, it’s not great. FMC sucks. When she got huffy at Jaxon for not going with her, I knew she was a pos. SHE changed their plans at the last minute after years of planning. When she gets to the city she all but forgets the entire reason she’s there. The MMC comes off as creepy instead of dark and mysterious - their chemistry is clunky; it’s not quite there. The spicy scenes are odd. I hope it gets better

WHY SO MANY QUESTIONS?!?! I do not understand🤯 It’s exhausting

Okay. I devoured book one. Book two was great. I’m struggling with this book. God love him, Fitz is dense. And it’s irritating the heck out of me. First off, his childish rant at burrich and chade earlier in the book made me mad. Now he’s on a journey to kill Regal all by himself🤨come on. He’s acting like a brat and it’s not enjoyable to read. This book is 869 pages, it better pick up real quick.

The excessive inner monologues are starting to wear me down. It’s too much. Who wrote this book?? Surely not the same author as the first. Darcy is incredibly self absorbed. Geez, I feel sorry for her mates. We are on book 3 and she’s only claimed two of them. Earlier she said, “you know I love you”. Uhhh no. They don’t. All she does is use them. I’m so over her

(**I’m on page 102) I’m struggling. At this point I’m skimming over the names and not even attempting to look at the pronunciation. It’s a bit much. Also, I enjoy dark romantasy, I’m not sure I’m the target audience for this particular authors writing style. We’ll see. I’ll keep going and see if I get hooked but so far I’m not enjoying it. It’s close, not there.

This entire chapter doesn’t make sense. Why did they need to move samael from the tower to a log cabin?? It doesn’t make sense. I thought the demons were all-powerful, but a few mages come after the tower and the flee?! Umm what? And Danicas little ‘distraction’ of leveling their building? This was poorly executed.

So far, this sucks. FMC is annoying and nothing is holding my interest. Debating whether to DNF, but I’ll keep going for now
