I haven’t experience any of this but I just have to roll my eyes. I feel like random traumatic things happen and none of their stories are fleshed out fr. Hannah highlights how difficult life is for women in the 60s & 70s, which I am glad I got to read bc I never rlly think abt it. It could be written with less cliche’s perhaps ?

I finished part 1 and while the history part is the story is interesting, I don’t love active bomb explosion destruction war stories. So that’s on me. I think I prefer hearing more details about the effect/sociopolitical climate, etc. which this book does have some of!!
Idk for some reason the main character and her experience doesn’t feel original…hoping it gets better

I still like the concept but the way the characters think an act feels all too predictable and very YA

I never heard of the wet foot dry foot policy that was enacted by Clinton in 1995 allowing Cuban immigrants to have an expedited route to citizenship if they were on American soil. Apparently it was to decrease the amount of Cubans coming by boat.

.. research shows this is bc of Fidel Castro, political instability and humanitarian relief. Obama ended this Act in 2017 tho

I’m learning a lot. I appreciate how the author intentionally tells the stories of undocumented immigrants just as they are, without needing to portray them in a certain light that others deem “worthy”

I’m learning a lot. Apparently Native Americans talked in a form a sign language before the colonization, genocide and kidnapping (under the guise education)

At first I was really not enjoying this book. I did not like the main character’s ridiculous excuses, like please. Rn it just seems like she tells herself off-truths to decrease her anxiety. Or maybe she actually believes what she’s telling herself but idk. I’m a little more interested in finishing the book than I felt when I initially started.

I listen to this book while doing stair master because I feel so many emotions, most of them utter frustration so I have to move my body. It’s really crazy that as a people we seemingly have control but yet we don’t? And politics control everything. I shouldn’t be surprised

Even the title hurts. The genocide of any people will never make sense to me. And it is active in Palestine now and it is so easy to feel helpless while watching ethnic cleansing and massive devastation; it’s just horrific. But one day we will have always been against this
