“My goal is that you learn to see yourself as your Creator sees you: as someone with infinite value who was created to be loved. And then I want you to live from that beautiful truth.”

“The sign that you have been forgiven is a heightened capacity for love, for gift-giving, and for forgiving others.“ TK

Some lovely commentary from our beloved college residents:

Grayson Holbert: “As Christians, we forgive each other through promises of God.”

Ansley Allen: “The yoke of Christ is light, but it weighs something…yet still less than the chains of unforgiveness.”

Forgiveness is hard and Jesus commands us to do it and not seek revenge…feeling the tension of how to navigate justice, and also feeling convicted on my own tendencies to not forgive or “forgive transactionally” as Keller explains in this chapter.

Challenged by this: “But the resources for healing relationships and strengthening community are being eliminated by therapeutic culture.”

“Patience is the ability to bear suffering rather than give in to it.”

“Forgiveness, then, is a form of voluntary suffering. In forgiving, rather than retaliating, you make a choice to bear the cost.”

“God is also the one who gives ‘wisdom and knowledge and joy’ (2:26). It is so striking that now, at the end of the Preacher's epic quest through life for happiness, he discovers where it comes from. Not from his striving, but from God's giving. God gives. these things to the person ‘who pleases him.’”

C.S. Lewis quote from myth 3 (Singleness Means No Intimacy) SNIPED me 💀

“In each of my friends there is something that only some other friend can fully bring out. By myself I am not large enough to call the whole man into activity; I want other lights than my own to show all his facets.... Hence true friendship is the least jealous of loves.”

Been a long time coming to read this one!!!!

“The presence of others leaves us feeling exposed. However, even though it feels as if other people are causing us to feel shame, in reality we carry shame with us all the time. Other people simply trigger its appearance.”

“(I should point out that I am an atheist, but I find that I sometimes need words and concepts from religion to understand the experience of life as a human being. This is one of those times.)”

Utterly fascinating quote from chapter 8. Major point is that phones intrinsically hinder spiritual practices that are beneficial to anyone.

Time to go outside :D (that was another big point more or less)
