A sound introduction.

Some great stories, no bad stories. I feel the editorial sensibility is not as wide as it could be. Issues of postmodern and postcolonial literature are underrepresented for the period.

Currently rereading, having first read it around 1980, as part of the reading of Girard's Deceit, Desire and the Novel. Fascinated.

The problem of authority (as Foucault noted so famously) is clear in reading this collection of notes in various states of development. The critique of Christianity is clear, more crass, and much more vulnerable here than in Nietzsche's other work.

When it finally gets to Hamlet, the book is excellent. Worth the wait? Worth the slog through barely relevant chapters on purgatory and then one that turned to just mysticism and superstition? Maybe.
