Also, I'm both mortified and excited that this book clearly doesn't hesitate in killing off characters.
Not much between her and the Darkling but I hope the romance between them is good because we all know they're getting together.

There might be three main characters and three main side characters and a whole bunch of world building but yk I see potential. I think this'll be a good book and hopefully good enough that I read the rest of it and perhaps the other two books of the series?

Not the most insane hook ever but it's enough to keep me going. I got a feeling this book will be petty good tho, there's just a lot of characters and world building that SAB (shadow and bone) throws at u in the beginning.

Can't say the same for Wyane. He's low-key weird. You can't convince me he's actually 'Mary's' father becuz she's literally getting flashbacks of her old life.
I STILL LOVE THIS BOOK. DREW IS KINDA DUMB BUT LIKE I STILL LOVE IT.

THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD SO FAR
After being disappointed by Heartless it feels so refreshing to read a book that sucks me in and I actually look forward to reading.

So...Jest is dead.
Cath was asking for it ngl.
Apparently Peter killed him? I thought it'd be the King but the giggling coward prob couldn't lift up Cath's sword soo
I'm glad there's only like, 40 pages left Jest was carrying the plot.

I'm aware of the plot of the book being abt Ishmeal to being more abt Ahab, but it's really just about the whales. I really liked the beginning of the book: Ish wants something new, Ish is forced to share a room with a harpooner, they start bonding, get on the ship, etc. So I rlly hope the book leans more to that sort of dynamic once Ish strays from the whale obsession unless the guy dies :[

The whole time during the build up to the King proposing to her, I thought: "no way he's going to do it" and now they're (Cath and the King) in a courtship instead?? I feel like she's just spiraling down a hole due to her mom pressuring her, CATH WAS GOING TO SAY NO.
Anyway, I like the book so far. Hoping to finish it soon so I can grind some inspo for the book I'm writing in the phc.horror catagory.
