Death and mystery begins to blossom

Prologue, chapter 1 and 2 completed

The Iliad is finished. In the end of the poem, it concludes with Achilles’ rage at Agamemnon has been suitably resolved. It doesn’t end in Achilles death which is surprising.

Now onto the odyssey!!!

FULL SPEED AHEAD

Book 20:

Achilles goes on a war path (literally) to find hector.

Book 19: four chapters left!!
Briseis, returned to Achilles, sees that Patroclus has died and mourns over his body. She says that he was always very kind. Achilles’ comrades beseech him to eat something, but Achilles refuses, overfilled with grief. Achilles addresses Patroclus with a speech of mourning. Zeus, filled with pity, sends Athena to nourish Achilles with the food of the gods without him noticing.

Book 18:
Achilles mourns his previous inaction, and says that he is now ready to accept his fate by revenging himself on the Trojans. Thetis observes that Achilles no longer has any armor of his own, and tells him that she will go to the smith god Hephaestus. She tells Achilles to stay out of battle until the next dawn, when she will return with splendid new arms. Thus, the famous Achilles shield was made.

Book: 17
Achilles does not yet know that Patroclus has died. Achilles’ horses, immortal gifts from the gods, sense the death and begin to weep. Zeus pities the horses and fills them with strength. They take their driver Automedon back into the thick of battle.

Book 16:
Patroclus is slain and predicts that Achilles will end hector’s life before he fades to darkness

Book 15:

Zeus wakes and sees the havoc that Hera and Poseidon have wreaked while he dozed in his enchanted sleep. Hera tries to blame Poseidon, but Zeus comforts her by making clear that he has no personal interest in a Trojan victory over the Achaeans. He tells her that he will again come to their aid, but that Troy is still fated to fall and that Hector will die after he kills Patroclus. Trojans are near the boats

Book 14:

Agamemnon proposes giving up and setting sail for home. Odysseus wheels on him and declares this notion cowardly and disgraceful. Diomedes urges them all to the line to rally their troops. As they set out, Poseidon encourages Agamemnon and gives added strength to the Achaean army. Hera tricks Aphrodite and Zeus to do this. Great Ajax wound hector cause him to retreat. Resulting in a great loss in number.

Book 13:

Zeus, happy with the war’s progress, takes his leave of the battlefield. Poseidon, eager to help the Achaeans and realizing that Zeus has gone, visits Little Ajax and Great Ajax in the form of Calchas and gives them confidence to resist the Trojan assault. He also rouses the rest of the Achaeans, who have withdrawn in tears to the sides of the ships. Their spirits are restored to fight again.

Read a couple of book chapters so I can not put them all in. Fights, speeches, some spying actions of ulysses. Diomedes is a killing machine, one of my favorite characters so far. Achilles might join the fight after Nestor’s speech???

Book 8:
Zeus turns the tide of battle in the Trojans’ favor, and the Greeks retreat in terror. Riding the Trojans’ surge in power, Hector seeks out Nestor, who stands stranded in the middle of the battlefield. Diomedes scoops Nestor into his chariot just in time. As the Achaeans struggle to regain their power, the archer Teucer fells many Trojans. But Hector finally wounds him. Thus turning the tides of battle.

Book 7:

Hector and Ajax begin their duel by tossing spears, but neither proves successful. They then use their lances, and Ajax draws Hector’s blood. The two are about to clash with swords when heralds, spurred by Zeus, call off the fight on account of nightfall. The two heroes exchange gifts and end their duel with a pact of friendship.

Book 6

Hector reaches the gates of Troy and tells the people to “Pray to the gods.” He goes to Priam’s palace and seeks out his mother Hecuba, who offers him wine. He refuses the offer and tells her to prepare a large sacrifice to Athena to help turn back the Achaeans. Hecuba gives orders to gather women and the materials for the sacrifice. The sacrifice is offered, but Athena refuses to hear

Diomedes prays to Athena for revenge, and the goddess endows him with superhuman strength and the extraordinary power to discern gods on the field of battle.

Diomedes becomes power hungry, killing a lot of Trojans. Injuring both Aphrodite and Apollo. This causes Ares to join the battle with the Trojans

This scares Diomedes and eventually he and Athena injures Ares back to Olympus. Odysseus was mentioned briefly.

More fighting are brewing with gods tampering and being petty

Book 3: a duel between Menelaus and Paris for the ownership of Helen as their wife.

Book 2:

Zeus sends a false dream to Agamemnon in order to help the Trojans. But, his men would rather go back to Greece.

Athena uses Odysseus to call the men back.

Overall ALOT of clans and troops and city gasm of j formation.

Book 1:

Learning about Achilles and the humiliation and proudness that has enraged him. Zeus is helping the Trojans. Odysseus is their but is not the main character…yet

The end is nigh

The last battle is upon us!
