I never do mid-read updates but just had to stop and say what a gem this book is! I’m taking my time to savor each short story.

Borges was evidently a huge blind spot for me, as I somehow never heard of him, and yet I’m realizing his influence is everywhere in pop culture.

Didn’t know anything going in and I was pleasantly surprised! It was a slow burn at the start, but I love the historical fiction genre so that (and the fact that I was reading it for book club) meant I was motivated to finish. I gained a whole new appreciation for the story at the end when I learned it was actually based on a real figure in history.
