The book is fascinating, which is why it is such a shame the author we are stuck with. He strikes me as one of those cowardly atheists who criticizes the faiths only of those he feel safe from. Hindus, Buddhists, Jews and Christians all get sections detailing their fasting history, and each also receives snide remarks in turn - the greatest scorn laid upon the Christians. But the fasting Muslims? Left out from fear.
