Dajer may be one of my favorite..villains..? What is he? Idk but he’s pretty interesting for what seemed to be a simple commander of a group of soldiers. He’s a man of sheer will and determination, u can see that while dusk doesn’t like him, he respects him in a way. You never feel like you have an upper hand with him and it’s intimidating but also is written so as to not just feel overpowered like Superman

Jack may come off as a decent person and even tell himself that he’s a good person, but you can tell there’s obviously something sinister deep down, that his justifications for his actions completely negate what we read before we get the full picture, that although this isn’t first person, we can’t trust what we’re reading

Yeah pretty different path than LOTR, the divide between Rand and his bros felt a bit forced but I can tell mat wants his boy back. So they’re in an alternative universe? Hmmm interesting, I bet Selene knows Rand from another time/place, “you’re always…”

Loving this so far. Sort of a classic dystopian future where you can compete in “games” for money. Our protagonist is a misogynistic asshole but loves his daughter and will give his life for money to take care of him but definitely need to remember that he’s an asshole; but I guess a product of his environment. Loved the way the YMCA building was described: “a skeleton of a murdered idea”

And they’ll take good and bad alike to hell because there won’t be any place but hell anymore,Not without love”

The battle between the Angel and two demons was *chefs kids*”. So much to appreciate: river eel demon, dream castle with jousting, angel fight, statue fight, Paris burning, this priests’ dream, the statues all yelling at the trio, the penitents,

Not sure if it’s the narrator or the lack of anything really of substance so far but kind of a drag for me tbh. Normally wouldn’t call it a “drag” only a few hours in but consider a few hours in equals 35% imma need this to go somewhere

I love how the dark friends are “regular” people who seem to be in a trance who does the dark ones bidding. Kind of reminds me of a classic vampire story where the people are turned by the main baddie and do his bidding but you can tell there’s something else there deep down. Also liking the journey with mat and Rand, going to each town, escaping baddies and getting better at the flute and juggling

I like that we’re finally splitting characters up, saw this inevitability for a little bit as a natural way to flesh out some characters and it’s happening wonderfully. Love the dynamic btn Nynaeve and Moiraine, and we’re finally getting some fleshed out distinction for Mat and Perrin. Obviously still some great similarities between this + LOTR, I can tell the similarities aren’t going to be around for long

This is a fucking horror book lol. “all down the way the pursued & the pursuing, the dream&the dreamers. The sudden revealment, the flash of familiar eyes, the cry of an old name, the remembrances of other times, the crowd multiplying. The Swift figure meaning everything to them, all identities, all persons, all names how many different names have been uttered in the last five minutes? How many different faces?”

“Afraid of the word politics, and with a screw tightened here, a bolt fasten there, a push, a pull, a yank, our literature were soon like a great twin of taffy strung about, being twisted in braids and thrown in all directions until there was no more resiliency and no more savor to it, and the print presses trickled down from a great Niagara of reading material to a mirror and oculus dripping of “pure “material
