Sam reflecting on meeting the Elves:

"They seem a bit above my likes and dislikes, so to speak," answered Sam slowly. "It don't seem to matter what I think about them. They are quite different from what I expected — so old and young, and so gay and sad, as it were."

Picking this up again. Really great description over manliness and bravery. "That immaculate manliness within ourselves" when we behold bravery in others.

Benjamin Harrison was so scared of electricity that he hired a ho in the white house who just flipped switches for him because he didn't want to get electrocuted.😂

Too much brilliance. Edwards was one of a kind.

"God in seeking His own glory seeks the good of His creatures, because the emanation of His glory (which seeks and delights in, as he delights in himself and his own eternal glory) implies the communicated excellency and happiness of his creatures."

Trying to move through this quickly. Still really good. Chester Arthur was a little scoundrel sneaking under the rug type President. Also James Garfield got bullied off a pirate ship lol.

"And it struck me. Secularism is not just a bogus faith. On top of everything else, it is a wet blanket. Non-Christians don’t know how to celebrate. And when they do get hold of the stuff, they careen out of control. Somebody needs to show them how to party."

Alot of helpful insight into James Buchanan and the mess he left Lincoln to deal with. And Franklin Pierce was a drunk that had a photographic memory (basically). It's like once John Tyler entered office our government progressively degresed until the Civil War because people were afraid to take action. This book is really helpful, and surprisingly enjoyable.

Zachary Taylor is now the second President to die from drinking that dookie water (R.I.P William Henry Harrison): shout out medicine.

I always like to have a book with short chapters that I can plod my way through and there's not really a better companion than Willy boy. I have been reading this for a couple of weeks when waiting for something, or walking somewhere and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

I planned on reading more. But this guy is just so dense that I just couldn't. I read for an hour and a half and got through like 5 pages. But, its paying off. This has some of the most heart stirring musings.

"This propensity in God to diffuse himself may be considered as a propensity to himself diffused, or to his own glory existing in its emanation." (155).

Definitely have to pray and meditate on this.

This book is crazy.
Shows how the marxists in the Frankfurt school used critical theory (with a mix of marxism, Darwinism, and Freudianism) to hijacked the left in America and progressives. Then, how the left hijacked institutions just like the N.I.C.E. did to completely eradicate Christianity and its morals and sexual ethic. Very eye opening. Makes me want to read Truemans books.

Reading this to finish off the trilogy that I've had in mind: that hideous Strength, the abolition of man, and this book.
It's really good so far and gives new insight into the 2 books. But particularly good in showing how Lewis was right and in diagnosing the problems we have in our society. Cultural Marxism, social Darwinism, and materialism really are just one conglomerate of demons lol.

Just reading this to get a broad and general understanding of presidents. That's it. Listening to it as an audio book.

I definitely underestimated the shrewdness of this book. I'm going to have to slow down for this one.
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue, and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traders in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful." (26).
