Meant to do a quick reading break from work but then got totally lost in the story lol oops

Sigh a lot of these essays are really just glorified op-eds that lack the depth I’m looking for. Most can be summarized into a sentence or two

It took a little bit but I’m so invested I hope the ending hits. Plot is exploring the importance of staying, remembering, and living slowly in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco. And wow? It’s resonating with me esp since it’s also so big on the Asian American + immigrant experience and reconnecting with art after burn out

Holy shit this book completely hooked me

The author is a European yt man and it shows

Did not expect the GenAI snipe given the context of this book but deeply appreciate it. On writing as a precarious profession: “Our work is stolen to train the software of multibillion dollar AI companies ran by people who believe art is a problem to be solved.” THIS AUTHOR IS TOO GOOD YALL I’m loving this book so far!!

Sigh the author’s storytelling might just not be my cup of tea (tried and failed to finished a different series by her before) I just feel like she’s focusing on everything but the interesting parts of what this storyline could be :/

Just finished the first part! This is a textbook

First essay on surveillance capitalism took me a bit to get thru bc I had to expand my brain a few times there whew! very informative, learned lots of new things…I need to fck off into a off grid cabin in the woods

THE FIRST BOOK OF 2025 THAT HAS AN ANTI-AI TRAINING STATEMENT LFG (that I have personally picked up) this is every content owner’s right and I hope to see even more :)

I was about to compare this book to black mirror but the author is going beyond “what if tech bad”bc it’s showing the structural issues (ones we literally see today) that makes tech/AI so harmful for certain people (as we see it today). Pacing is not the most captivating but I already know that I really want to read more books like this going forward

after reading SOTR I decided to rewatch the movies after years and forgot how much they whitewashed and toned down the messaging - esp in catching fire like I couldn’t even finish it lol. so this is me reminding myself what Collins had to say about fascism and oppression and yes it’s way better than the movie
