It doesn't make sense to me that the narrator is a bystander most of the time and then will suddenly start socializing with the students. Corwin may have been influenced to write this way because sometimes he is forced to step in and help the students when their teacher ditches them. I think Corwin cares more about the students than staying in his role as the observer.
