One of the hardest parts of reading this series is the overly explained spy detail. Takes up half the book.

Complex but a good story overall

Now that the “twist” has been revealed, the tone of the book has definitely changed. It’s become a story to a soapbox. It definitely doesn’t read like the voice of a teenager. Now I’m trying to decide if I want to finish the book or not.

It was refreshing to see this legend’s story and her impact on the Harlem Renaissance come to life. Albeit historical fiction , a number of the occurrences throughout the book are true. Jessie Redmond Fauset’s story needed to be told.

I liked how the author broke down the number of different ways/reasons/factors that make phenoms, phenoms. This book highlighted nurture over nature.

It was just like like reading Wait For Me. There were no different perspectives, imo

Cute rom com. Totally see this as a movie.

I picked up this book to learn how others think when it comes to politics, Liberty,etc. I don’t know how far I’ll get. Just the introduction alone shows that there are drastically different Americas.

I’m confused about the era of this book. I thought maybe 60s/70s for Soot and modern day for the author…. Until I read Martin and Def Comedy Jam under Soot’s story.

Annoyed. Had aibileen never told skeeter about her deceased son’s idea for a book, skeeter would still be a boring writer. Now she wants to pass it off as her idea. Ugh!!!

“I told him don’t drink coffee or he gone turn colored. He say he still ain’t drunk a cup of coffee and he twenty one years old. It’s always nice seeing the kids grow fine.” 😡🤔😐🤨🤢😩

Having a hard time getting into the book. Very wordy/detailed. I feel like I’m reading it in audiobook form.

I’m only on page 53 but celestial is on not on my “favorite characters” list. She harps at Roy for not keeping secrets, but she is one secretive chickadee. I’m not feeling her.

I appreciate the coming of age story, but the book was a too choppy for my tastes.

Definitely not the intrigue of a Gone Girl.
