It is nothing she can ever look forward to.
But in this moment, she is happy. And that’s all that counts.

It’s been revealed what the curse concerning Henry truly entails. He agreed to sell his soul, just to ease the pain in his chest, the storm roaring endlessly in his head. He exchanged his life for one year of peace. Only one year left.

The guy, that Addie is falling in love with.
The guy, who will soon not exist anymore.

Maybe, maybe, maybe - she’ll never know for certain.

I love to discover more and more about Henry’s „deal with the devil“. It’s heartbreaking, everyone sees him in a perfect light. Their own definition and true longing, but never Henry himself. The mist is robbing them of their true sight.
„And he knows, no matter who she sees, it’s not him. It has never been him. It’ll never be him. So he lets her go.“

Addie went on a date Henry.

„Du warst gestern erst hier. Ich erinnere mich.“

Well, a lot happened obviously. But I just AHHHH. We met Henry, who has a similar issue, I kinda know what but can’t put it into words right now. Addie wanted to steal a book from his shop. Didn’t work, gave him money and left. Returns now. He remembers.

„Déjà vu. Déjà su. Déjà vécu.“ - Already seen. Already known. Already lived

It is enthralling. The time skips are not confusing, they flow perfectly with the story being told. Discovering more and more about Addie’s destiny, or should I say doom? We don’t know yet. She has called to a demon, a god, a shadow? Taking on the shape of her imaginary image of a „perfect“ man. She has made a bargain. A fatal one. Nobody will ever know her. Nobody remembers. To what extent, I don’t know.

„Geschichten sind eine Form der Selbstbewahrung. Um in Erinnerung zu bleiben. Oder sich selbst zu vergessen.“

I am loving it so far! The writing style is filled with vivid metaphors and thrilling comparisons. I highly sympathize with the main character Adeline, though I prefer to call her Addie as she prefers it herself. Somehow she’s been alive for roundabout 300 years, I don’t know how or why yet, but it is intriguing.
