It is proving typical of Follett to include so much conflict, drama and indecision...

Very different to TPOTE and FOG and character attractions are just as bland and one-dimensional as in the others... But overall proving interesting regardless.

Point one: "Think in ink." -Marilyn Monroe. This affirms my lifelong habit of writing everything down, highlighting every interesting bit of text and making notes. Point two: OST: Objective, Strategy, Tactics Sports is a major component in this text. While I am no great fan of sport, sports folk do know a thing or two about winning, strategising and tactics in pursuit of a particular objective.

This just drags on and on. Another epiphany, and he's only going to need "a few more hours" to "solve" it again. I don't have high hopes. Just solve the damn crime because carrying on with this book should be an offence under the law.

This has been a challenge. I've finished two other books since starting this one - it just isn't very gripping.

While it's obvious this book was written well before the internet and other forms of communication (even mobile phones), this is a great read so far. Somewhat Orwellian and a warning against over-dependence on technology, right-wing extremism and racial/religious scapegoating. The first-person narrative is refreshing and the narrator is made more human by her observations of the mundane. So far a top novel.

I'm in need of some shorter novels to fill the gaps in my reading challenge. Starting the year off with huge 600 page books was a bad idea as I'm now behind schedule despite my best attempts. Suggestions welcome.

Ashley is on page 139 of What Do Women Want? : Bread, Roses, Sex, Power
Finally nearing the end of this series of essays. It isn't exactly what I was hoping for but has thus far provided some very useful insight into life as a woman in American/Western society and what obstacles women may face in being successful. Next chapter: "Quest for Stiffness." Let the fun carry on.

Fantasy is not my favourite. However, this nightmarish parallel universe is this far well-written and intriguing, a peek into the literal underbelly of London with its own secret passageways and code of conduct. Tides seem to be changing for the protagonist at this point. Somehow it's obvious that the author writes television series of the same name.
