Finally going to read grandfather fantasy’s foundational work.

I believe this is my first time ever reading a book I’ve acquired from a free little library. It’s about time I sunk my teeth into another classic, my second book by Hemingway.

A common theme I’m finding in books like this is too much human experience. Sure I’m not expecting the facts and data of an academic paper, but I’d love a deeper dive into the animals. A good example of this is “What an Owl Knows” by Jennifer Ackerman, she shares her experiences with owls but it’s loaded with fascinating research. This one feels more like a personal memoir than one for vultures.

I’ll be reading ~10 pages a day, the study for St. Lucia has started.

Figured I’d knock another highly recommended book off my TBR after the success of Red Rising.Its probably best to get through it before the movie comes out to avoid any spoilers.

(Side note, I am going to try and limit myself to one Red rising book a month until the final book comes out the year. We’ll see if I can manage this exercise of self control, I love plowing straight through a series.)

The use of dogs to locate owls via the scent of their sign is a truly remarkable and novel concept. With such high success rates it echos the usefulness seen in Florida with trapper Mike’s success finding Burmese pythons, iguanas, and other invasive species with his dogs.
