I can not believe Kya got away with this murder. She talks about the fireflies and what they do, and relates it to what she did to Chase. She lured him to the marsh tower and pushed him off it. And around 45 years later, after Kya is dead, Tate finds the neclace chase wore, which was under a hidden floorboard. Kya killed Chase Andrews.

Kya starts feeling very lonely. After being betrayed by Chase, she feels like she just has to live life alone. I almost wonder if she was kinda depressed. Also, she realizes Chase is pretty much just a creature acting on base mating instincts, similar to male animals in her nature studies.

I feel terrible for Kya. She was heartbroken about Tate never coming back, and then she finally found happiness with Chase. They were together for quite a long time, and they started really loving each other. What Kya does not know is that Chase was just using her and was cheating the whole time. This made Kya extremely upset.

I feel bad for Tate. He had such a good relationship with Kya for so long, but it started to fade as he went to college. They never talked for 4 years. Tate one day convinced himself to apologize to her, but was devastated when he realized Chase and Kya were dating. Tate started feeling guilty that he should have just broken up with her, instead of carrying the love for her inside of him for many years.

I kinda feel bad for Kya. She is getting caught in the Chase Andrews murder, as social services force her and Tate into an abandoned cabin. Their relationship starts to grow as Tate teaches her poetry. I think they are in a very bad spot right now, though.

I'm still kind of confused about what is happening with Chase Andrews. The investigators think he fell off the fire tower and broke his neck. As there was no evidence at all for the death, the town started making assumptions about random people. Eventually, Kya starts becoming the main rumor, which she definitely did not do.

I once again feel terrible for Kya, who, at 10 years old, is basically living her own life by herself. Her father disappears, leaving her by herself once again in the marsh shack. But with her maturity, she is able to survive by selling food to Jumpin to get her own supplies.

I'm very interested in how mature Kya is for her age. Her mother leaves her at a young age, and her father is frequently gone, too. In chapter six, Pa leaves for a couple of days, and 10-year-old Kya takes his boat for a ride by herself. I'm very surprised that she even knows how to operate a vessel. Although she ends up getting lost, you have to credit her.

I was astonished on what happened to Chase Andrews. He was the popular quarterback at his high school, and seemed to be killed, as his body was found in the mud under a fire tower. Something that was weird too was that there were no footprints or evidence left behind besides his body. I think this is where the murder mystery starts

I think Dex is searching for some meaning in his life. Through Mosscap's friendship with Dex, Mosscap can push Dex to explore these feelings and look at what it means to live a good life. I liked the message that we don’t have to constantly achieve or prove ourselves just to deserve our place in the world, which ends the story.

Oggie seems kinda weird. I think he might have some kind of disorder. On page 100, they talk about how he is very smart, but quite an annoying guy. When Dex came over, Oggie would ask Dex all these random questions and lurk around him.

I think Dex found Mosscap pretty annoying at first. For example, after Dex drenched themself in a puddle, Mosscap was just making statements that were not needed at the time, and Dex would reply back rude, showing that they are probably triggered. Also, I wonder if Dex is starting to like his job, after he is getting the hang of it.

Im not gonna lie, the encounter with that Dex had with that one lady was quite strange. She was extremely upset that her cat died, becuase it was the only reason her and her husband were still relevant with eachother. Then she started talking about her love life, which Dex had no clue how to react like that. Then she asked how long they was a Monk for, which became very awkward because it was his first day.

In this book, I'm starting to realize the topic the author is creating. Dex is considered a they/them, or non-binary. Through the plot so far, I think the author tries to show a perspective on how others see the world, instead of the straight perspective. In short terms, it is trying to spread how LGBTQ people look at their lives with the straight people around.

I find it kind of strange that Dex had never heard the sound of crickets before. I get that he lives in a monastery, but he also was a kid once, not being a monk. I wonder if he just did not like going outside as a kid

I dont know if it was the right choice for Changez to go back to Pakistan. He thought Erica was kind of caught up with herself. I think this is not right, though, because he could help with what Erica is facing. Of course, Erica is not going to mentally be the same if the love of her life passed away. If I were in Erica's shoes, I would be the same way.

Changez starts feeling as if he is getting treated like an alien. He already was feeling uncomfortable in America, but that feeling starts to harden. Hes also realizing that the moto of Underwood Sampson is not really true, as he sees the company's values align easily with America's power and global dominance

Changez’s father’s illness is crucial in Chapter 9. It represents the difference between Changez’s professional success and the reality of his national identity. It forces him to do things he can’t optimize, fix, or escape, different from at Underwood Samson.

I wonder if Changez and Erica are becoming a little more than friends. On page 101, it talks about how they fall asleep in each other's arms. This also might be Changez's view change of America, after his strange reaction to the 9/11 tragedy.

Chris has some kind of symbolic meaning. There are 3 theories of mine. The first is that he represents the past of America. The second one could be how he represents a tragedy. We know about Erica being America, and Chris's death was a tragedy for her. So, in this situation, Chris can also be 9/11. The last is that Chris could be representing religion or Christianity.

After 9/11, Changez was acting kinda weird. He started smiling after he saw what was happening to his home country. This was not usual him. On page 73, he says, "I knew merely that my feeling would be unnaceptable to my colleagues, and I undertook to hide them as well as I could. He feels some kind of pleasure when the tragedy happened, and he does not even know why himself

I think something is kind of wrong with Erica. Since her past incidents with her old boyfriend's death, she seems to be emotionally unstable. She has some kind of PTSD with her next boyfriend dying, as well as having depressed attributes.

I wonder what Erica is thinking or doing behind the scenes. She seems to be surrounded by other people, especially men, and seems to begin to be distant from Changez. Although, this makes her kinda similar to Changez, because he also is quite out of it and often feels out of place.

Something is getting a little fishy. It seems like everything leads back to something to do with the United States. For example, the names Changez, Erica, and the company that has the abbreviation of US, all have something to do with the US. There are also a lot of stereotypical stuff, where it talks about how normal American people look. I wonder if something bad is going to happen to the Americans.

I feel so sorry for Cal. His father has now just about left him and he thinks he is not going to be ok without Pop. On page 182, Cal is freaking out and says to himself " Pop is leaving me. Pop is leaving me." I think Cal was feeling a little bit depressed about Pop leaving too. Even though he was feeling this way, Possum was being a good friend and cheered him up.

Possum Brings Cal to the Old Oak tree. This is different than all the other spots in the school because it is a secret that Cal, Possum, and maybe Possum's "gang" know about. Cal and Possum enjoy this place so much because of the built in small closet with handy supplies that they can use in the future of something to keep in memory of. One example can be the the cedar box with Possum's grandfather's stuff.

I felt sad for Cal because I can't imagine how he is feeling right now about Pop. He's just learning that he is an American Indian and is having to inherit the culture of being Indian right after his father had confessed. He has had to go to this school and leave his father, learning that he is Indian, and has to learn new words.

I was interested on how sexist Challagi is. On page 146, it says "Like pop said, keeping the boys and girls as far apart as possible is the order of the day here. Boys dorms ahead of us, Houses two, four, and six. Girls houses one, three and five off over to our right."

I was scared for Cap and Pop, Because I thought Sheriff might shoot them. On page 97, it says "That's a nice weapon you have there sheriff" Cap says. "Yall want a closer look?" Sheriff says. On page 98, it says "Now Im not going to shoot all of you, but if yall don't tell me what I want to know, we are going to burn down every single one of your rotten little shacks."
