Ok, yeah. I had missed these characters.

Thinking about "posturing" and how it's a play at violence to avoid actual violence.

It is, I think, one of Stephen King's gifts, to weave a current of unease and dread into otherwise innocuous moments.

The idea of paying for different military career fields based on supply and demand is an excellent one that will never get past basic military culture.

I can see why it would need to be shorter - the story rarely lets up on the action.

I appreciate the little things to continue developing the sense of impending doom.

"...more New York City police commit suicide than are killed on duty."

This is the kind of stat that haunts me at night.

"Hey, are we at a crime scene?"

"Not yet..."

The final Sanderlanche is on. I am not ready.

It never does feel like enough, does it?

End of Part Two. Doggos go fast.

I appreciate the effort to get one last ball into the story.

Revolutionary leaders being wildly hypocritical to their own benefit?? That never happens!

It's probably a sign of my age and perspective that Danny's wish to be a "big kid" cut my heart as much as the psychic visions did.

I appreciate that the characters at least have the decency to pass around the "everything is pointless and we should all give up and die" hat.

It might be the fact that the narrator is a small child, but the sense of the various agendas pushing and pulling the family is inescapable.
