Shorter than I remember

The first books in this series are only 3 hours each. This one is 12... These are better in the shorter format. I'll be done after this one.

Brandon gives himself the permission to write more ornate prose when narrating from Hoid and the book is the better for it.

It'd be a wild twist if we find out all Constructs really are just humans. It would recontextualize everything and make it way better... But it would undermine the themes I think the author is going for so I doubt that'll be the case.

The audiobook narrator's pronunciation of "Carnegie" has broken my immersion completely.

Will chapter 19 didn't make any sense

The audio book narrator talks like he is reading a script of a Seinfeld episode.

Ohh so it's a full on satire/comedy

2nd reading, this time in audio book read by the author. He has a forward to it that has me kinda put off weirdly. We'll see how this reading now, 16 years later, differs.

The author shouldn't have attempted to explain the skip drive. It cheapens some of the book. It isn't as good as the beginning, getting less focused, but still pretty good so far.

Pretty good still. I'm enjoying the humor and the campiness. I'm glad it isn't an action thriller and I hope it doesn't become one.

On no Aaron & Michael. I don't know if I can do it. This isn't going well for me. Is the whole book like this? I am going to need some assurances it gets better to be able to keep going. Nothing is happening in this book and I'm afraid that is the point.

So far it feels like a better version of the DJ Pancake book I attempted.

I'm out. Too artois for me. Sounds like a slightly more modern version of Hemingway. I'm not a fan of Hemingway either. The best part of this book was the forward which was written by someone else and provided the historical context.

The genre of small town American was interesting though. I'll maybe follow Aaron into the genre based on his glowing reviews of the other guy.

My college book club is reading this. Idk man. 8 books of this?

Not much complex thought so far. Pretty pulpy. Standard Isakai so far.

One of those books where I'm not sure I "get it". But it is very pretty prose.

Strong start

Some of these are pretty good. They are more written like poetry/fancy-prose and atmosphere being more important than story.

Some are very imaginative.

So far kinda fun. There are about 60 short stories in this book.
