The author shouldn't have attempted to explain the skip drive. It cheapens some of the book. It isn't as good as the beginning, getting less focused, but still pretty good so far.

Pretty good still. I'm enjoying the humor and the campiness. I'm glad it isn't an action thriller and I hope it doesn't become one.

On no Aaron & Michael. I don't know if I can do it. This isn't going well for me. Is the whole book like this? I am going to need some assurances it gets better to be able to keep going. Nothing is happening in this book and I'm afraid that is the point.

Ok Aaron, here we go!

So far it feels like a better version of the DJ Pancake book I attempted.

I'm out. Too artois for me. Sounds like a slightly more modern version of Hemingway. I'm not a fan of Hemingway either. The best part of this book was the forward which was written by someone else and provided the historical context.

The genre of small town American was interesting though. I'll maybe follow Aaron into the genre based on his glowing reviews of the other guy.

My college book club is reading this. Idk man. 8 books of this?

Not much complex thought so far. Pretty pulpy. Standard Isakai so far.

One of those books where I'm not sure I "get it". But it is very pretty prose.

Some of these are pretty good. They are more written like poetry/fancy-prose and atmosphere being more important than story.

Some are very imaginative.

Well, chapters 9-13 were pretty good. Mostly just back to swapping monologues again now.

Plot begins in chapter 9. A reader should be able to begin the book here without issue.

Oh look, there's Ransom. Did the first half of the book need to be so long before anything started happening?

Day 13: Jesus the Friend of Sinners. Another favorite from this book. So much powerful encouragement. "He will never love you less, and he cannot love you more."

This and say 8 have been my favorites.

The prose of this book actually hit quite good highpoints. Chapter 36 with Dancer especially. Still not sure how the story will fit in the rest of the book. Brutal payoffs left and right now and seeding future conflicts.

Today, Day 8 was especially encouraging. Spurgeon explored the idea of how fishermen must have faith. How they do not prepare the fish for harvest but instead God does. They act in faith and go out and receive it. This illustration can then be applied in many ways but it's applied in this writing to Jesus's call to make fishers of men. I've heard this before but not quite like this today.

There is a lot of story left, but not a lot of book. Either I misunderstand the structure of this series or there is about to be a rushed unsatisfying acceleration in plot.
