why does percy clarify the race of her childhood friend? what did it add to the story? what information did the addition of a characters ethnicity meant to communicate? is it not just reiterating racial stereotypes? was there no sensitivity reader??

i ache! lord, i ache! beautifully and tragically written. i will never look at pictures of my grandmother, mixed race, undoubted without the consent of her own grandmother, the same way.
