This joint mad addicting. See myself in Beth in the bouts of shyness and wanting love, in Jo the need to be playful, for Meg to save face as the eldest, and in Amy my tendency to be discontent. And Laurie’s a dude so that answers itself I think.

Bro Dickens always be bringing back the dead in one way or another. I can’t help but be excited by this more so than the other 4 I’ve read from him. How he keeps characters consistent in character amongst strife is quite lovely.

Wow. Need to go back, frustrating yet satisfying to see how this is really coming together. I’m sick for these people, and I will not forget them.

Wow, some striking scenes in Quentin’s POV. His relationship with his father and Caddy is really compelling. The extremes are always possible in this world. It’s either virgin or whore. You can never be anything more. I feel Quentin’s burden as an older sibling.

Pretty cool. Some of Dillard’s extended metaphors feel like she’s showing off. However, given that she is in a new unfamiliar place, it makes sense that she would use devices which combine the unfamiliar with the more familiar.
Lots of wonderful paradoxes of paying attention (when to hold on and when to let go), and the comical observation here and there.

It’s unbelievable how much of a balancing act this is.

The characters are so real, almost disturbingly so, as if Fyodor committed a crime to write this jawn. Some interesting discussions to flag and follow up on upon completion. The cat and mouse game is very fun but also quite sad.

I’m surprised this is riveting bc Russian names.
The inner clarity (or perhaps lack there of) when it comes to one’s reason is very intimate and engaging. There is a self-deception and self-loathing that makes for an unflattering combo, but also is hard to look away from. Like a wreck on the I-5.

Some setups that are great examples of fleshing out the front story. The power of making the present moment urgent!

Continues to be interesting. The desire to see your family esteemed but also because of said closeness to be the first to mock.

Much of the action against, seems to hinge on what is expected to happen and what actually does. Closed doors, secret letters, oh the things that don’t see the light of day until later on.

Crazy what the mind does when it wants to believe something. I’m invested in Elinor & Marianne!

Amazing!

There is a fascinating dynamic between sisters. Elinor seems to be in denial about being in denial. I think they’re more similar than each would care to admit at least when it comes to the melancholy that is apt to coincide even with love.

The Palmers— hilarious. There’s something about that dynamic that feels modern. It’s very family reunion coded. I went to one, so fond memories are stirred up.

Already have more of a buy-in than Pride and Prejudice. The character of the colonel fascinates me. I’m realizing with these sisters, “oh shoot she has sense” and the other “she has sensibility” and then I remember the title of what I’m reading.

Already the power of suggestion in the language works beautifully with the historical fiction side of things. Some pleasant sentences to read aloud already, with ambiguous fate underneath it. Really a thrilling read so far.
