Already this story has been mesmerizing. A limited but likable narrator moves through a story that I worry will have bittersweet stops, but along the way has already posed insights on life that keeps the mind turning.

Eerily fascinating; I am both entranced by Dorian’s persona and how it interacts with the surrounding characters, but I am also mortified at where the increasing tensions are moving. A moving and compelling tale so far.

Austen’s style is immaculately colorful and humorous. One doesn’t have to know much about the stories’ historical contexts, as so much is revealed in the flavorful moments and conversations that the characters have. This is an incredible novel that manages to capture the humorous relatability of girlhood no matter who you are, but also has profound insights and considerations on gender, sex, and culture.

Beautiful. A wondrous story that shines light on questions of humanity and wonder, in a way that isn’t so imposing or frightening. Instead of a dystopia of terror and horror, this begs the question: what if the end of the world isn’t so bad? What if it’s an opportunity for rebirth?

Densely packed with detail and beginning with some charming descriptions of both England and France; establishing the balance of the two tales.
