I like the story and message in this book more so than 1984, but the execution acts more as a social/political thriller than a deeper exploration into our society.

Though the term "Orwellian" has become synonymous with our current climate, I find it to be a bit excessive. While yes, each day we are approaching a dystopian world much like the one in 1984, I can't help but think of the several points in history where countries displayed "Orwellian" traits. I mean, literally North Korea! Anyway, there is a lot in this so far that feels too much like our current reality! Yikes

Started chipping away at this last week. I adore Zweig's writing. He's a close second behind Williams for my favorite author!!

very sweet. reading for my Young Adult Lit class. didn't know what to expect but i'm really loving it!

Good so far! Excited to see where it goesss

I genuinely cannot think of a word that would capture the essence of this book. It's fantastic!! The mellow pace is starting to catch up to me so I've been chipping away at it slower than I'd like, but it's still very enjoyable!

This is slowly becoming one of my new favorites. I love Zweig's writing so much. He's able to implement so much detail throughout his stories in ways that my brain cannot fully comprehend. His characters are always so well fleshed out and his stories continuously remained human, but grand enough to be awe worthy. Such a talent!!

So far, loving this story. I love a book written in the early 20th century as they serve as such an interesting time capsule of storytelling. Yay! Exciting!

Hmmm. Gonna put this one back I think....

My God. Genuinely one of the most gut wrenching books I've ever read. It's so human, almost to a fault (simply because i can't catch my breath).

This is fun. I like the micro love stories. Definitely of its time but I don't think of that as a flaw.
