the author saying in the acknowledgements that ppl kept telling her after the first book they loved marosa and wanted to see more of her was partial impetus for this book is cool, i do remember her being cool, especially bc she was in this supposed evil kingdom and was slyly helping us and you couldn't exactly tell her true allegiances but yeah i don't remember much but i definitely love her after this book

well that letter was a very nice ending

i didnt care too much for the first book but after reading this i want to read it again with context

ok it seems like marosa wrote this letter before fynch essentially killed himself i wonder where it ended up going, i dont remember from the first book

but let's see what's next there's only 30 pgs left this is a very nice transition to something new

ohhh since fýredel is flying off to supposedly kill/threaten sabran i vaguely remember that from the first book but iirc she survives bc of ead (tho at the time she thinks it's the saint)

and now marosa is abt to meet up w beck and his buddy who just got off estina's ship which i remember from the first book

initially i thought this book was going to end before overlapping with the first book but we're still going

not overreacting to the mention of glorian at all

i will definitely overreact to any mention of the second book

I wonder if marosa will ever find out how reluctant aubrecht was to give up trying to save her and the engagement

but this annulment letter showing up on the page right after her seeing all of her friends and companions eaten alive is insane and sad

just remembered marosa had some kind of pleasant relationship with loth beck from the first book so it's nice to confirm that she stands her ground even after being forced to become a puppet

the stuff with the mysterious box and the journey to the south all sounds like prep for the first book and what made loth go find her in the first place, sabran wanted to find what happened to her father etc.

jondu's story was very sharp and impactful, it's getting serious and there are only 60 pages left? how are we introducing a whole journey at pg 220? im trusting the author but idk

it's so weird having a short book in this series like wdym it's almost over

ok i was wondering, I was a bit out of the lore since I read her last book maybe last year or the year before so I wasnt sure if fýredel was the true name of the nameless one or if it was the right hand or something, but no yeah fýredel is one of the three high westerns

just realizing that there's a possibility the fire dragons could potentially be violently "'"""saving""""" yscalin by exposing the fact that the saint is bs and maybe as marosa meets fýredel she'll gradually come to terms with that fact and have to decide between one falsehood and serving fire dragons and that's we end up at the first book bc she's super strong so I cant imagine her becoming a vessel willingly

yes horrifying circumstances but im sure if these creatures weren't evil their actions could be seen as cute, like what do you mean the serpent wants her to follow it 🥹

again if i remember correctly marosa essentially takes her father's place as being possessed during the orange tree book, so everything in this book is leading up to that :,( it's sad seeing how hard she's fighting her garbage father

calling back to glorian GOATheart, and Lady Nikeya apparently the first warlord of Seiiki (!!) in the span of a few pages is just fanservice atp, like yes! I remember and like all of the fallen night characters

despite preferring the female povs, I look forward to seeing how aubrechts story goes and knowing what I know from orange tree how he feels about his marriage being switched from yscalin to inys hasn't happened yet but I assume it's obv bc of the evil dragon stuff going on in yscalin

also this book is short so is going to go into his child w sabran..? his noticing of her relationship w eadaz, very interesting stuff

aubrecht pov? interesting he was relevant in the orange tree

i forgot we were getting this even though i accidentally flipped thru and spoiled myself

the guy povs often fall flat to me in this series, maybe bc it's mainly women going on dangerous adventures and fighting

the only guy pov i liked in these books has been wulf's pov and even then i didnt like it at the beginning, his story was genuinely amazing

i think it just hit me that im pretty sure ive seen her name Estina Melaugo before and she is definitely in the orange tree book on this same crew w Harlowe so looks like she stays on the ship

dont remember liyat's name tho so I really hope nothing happens to her and that she just wasnt mentioned or i forgot

interesting to see the book referencing sabran and bardholt from the fallen night book (the best one)

again it's still cool to see how we got to the point of the first book by gradually showing how yscalin became dragon city (not to be confused w the cute mobile game)

it's been a while since i read this so i didnt realize im already like a third through the book we're already having lesbian relationship issues in the middle of the second grief of ages

ok the priory stuff is coming back to me, I do remember that whatever happens, decoy or not, the real king is gonna turn into some kind of proxy for the nameless one so im interested in seeing how that happens and how the rest of yscalin goes along with it & being the only wyrm supporters
