I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying this so far. So often, sapphic romantic novels have failed to truly grip me, and that frustrates me to no end, because - I do like women, you know, and I feel it's weird and unfair! ;-) But this one I liked from the start, I love both characters and their dynamic. Also... swords! Jousts! Chivalry!

Es macht mich so unfassbar aggressiv, dass niemand in der Lage ist, Teenager Snow wie eine Person zu behandeln, dass ich vor Wut ernsthafte Probleme hab, mich auf den Rest des Buchs zu konzentrieren. Srsly wtf.

100% festgelesen <3 Komisch, dass es sich so besonders anfühlt, auf Deutsch genau die Art von Buch zu lesen, die ich mag... Aber ich glaube, es ist echt lange her, dass ich das mal hatte.

Ok wow, if you're anxious when you're away from your boyfriend for a day, that's not romantic, that's codependent. And what's with this super repetitive pattern of "smol feminine guy being protected by buff guy"? The first book didn't have these issues, they started in book 2, and I skipped 3 because them. Now here they are again. If I wanted this I'd read last century het romance, you know?

This feels like a painful, melancholy holiday in the 90s (or before Covid, at least). It's also the queerest her/him romance I've ever read, and I want to go taste some wine immediately.

Yes, Tommy, please do ask them again what their fucking justice is and what it's supposed to accomplish. Here's someone willing to actually make amends for her crimes, undo some of them even, and nobody's willing to let her because revenge is more important, right? (And btw, this here is the Wanda Maximoff canon I subscribe to, not the1930s style hysteria story Marvel brought to the big screen AGAIN in goddamn 2022.)

I love how all the adults are caught up in their old feuds, in punitive justice and a bloated, useless idea of security and caution, and the teenagers need to fix it all, against the adults' will. Very timely.

This is fucking amazing.

One thing I like about Downum's work is that even though it's in a way classic fantasy, she doesn't adhere to any of the omnipresent act structures. She tells, the story as slowly and quietly as it needs to be told, suspense levels be damned.

This book resonates through my whole body. It feels like arriving at a place I was looking for but I believed didn't exist.
