I'm really liking this stand alone from Cronin. Like his Passage trilogy, this one is a dystopian future. But instead of a sweeping epic that covers thousands of years, this is a closer examination of a not-quite-right dyatopia similar to The Giver. A+ so far

My plan was to get a beach read for a low-effort reading experience, and this book seemed to fit the bill. But it's been a great and substantive read so far. Uncomfortable subject matter, but done artistically. In some ways, it reminds me of Andrea Arnold films.

Only 1/3 of the way through, but this might be the best book in the series. It's hard to describe w/o spoilers. So, my review is: Read this series and expect it to get better and better.

I'm not a fan of the audiobook narrator.... But he's perfect when he reads The Kidd

This book hasn't aged as well as I hoped. Good thing the writer himself has been aging better than this book has. First read it at age 11 and LOVED it. Over 30 years later? It's good. But his other, later works are better.

I don't think this author is American because in this story, pedophiles are treated as criminals. People don't want to hang out with them or elect them to federal offices.
