Finally got my hands on an Octavia Butler title. So excited to read this one and Parable of the Sower next. I have many thoughts on this book after just the first few chapters. The main character carries physical items with her as she time travels. The switchblade symbolizes her resistance to the violence slaves in the antebellum South face.

I’m never gonna shut up about this book.

I can’t believe we were never taught this side of history.
