Enjoying on audible. Distressing to be confronted with the racial discrimination, but still real. Enjoying his thrill in music and instruments, but also feeling like an outsider in culture. As a musician myself I found myself thinking frequently, yeah, I know what you mean. The plot of this is decent, but honestly I think I am relating more to the character of the musician himself.

Loving this book. Draws the reader in quickly with intriguing story. Some characters not as well developed as others, but still worth the very engrossing read.

Having just come off of reading William Stegner’s Crossing to Safety, I wondered if this was the best time to read Niall Williams’ This Is Happiness. Both are stories about everyday life events, written in such a way as to offer immersion in the narrative but as an observer. Although both are wonderfully written, not sure I want to follow Stegner with Williams so quickly.

This is an incredible book. It moves me to keep searching for how I can help change the course of racist policies. On Audible, the narrator is superb.

This is a book I pick up and put down - I read it when I want to think, be conscientous, be self-learning. I agree with other writers, the Obama-bashing was a little difficult at first - but also, let’s be real, totally enlightening. I will continue to read this, a little at a time, and thoughtfully.
