absolutely bonkers. pulls no punches in its depictions of war and the grotesque, visceral violence that comes with it. i am simultaneously horrified, disgusted and giggling at the pure badassery of it.

I've got a lot to say about Theresia and Wilhelm...
Admittedly, it was a litle repetitive given the closure we were provided at the end of the white whale fight. HOWEVER:

Coming from the anime of season 1, I never realized the depth behind their relationship. I always thought "They're cute AF, but I don't really understand *why* they love each other the way they do." And this clarifies that beautifully.

CHAR LIMIT

quick, easy read with very small details that elude to later arcs and plot points. I love when they get you thinking about how the world works, or how to get out of a situation. that being said, I wish Rudy didn't internal monologue *every single thought he has...*

a large majority of this book was cut from the anime, so it's good to see!! these characters are incredible, and swing them interact makes me happy!!!

pretty good, pretty messed up. can't wait to watch that detective get torn to shreds

misaki is my favourite middle-aged mother in fiction

very good so far! the characters are fun and memorable, the worldbuilding is (mostly) great, and the small taste of action we were fed at the end of the second chapter was somehow badass—even though it was a scuffle between two pre-pubescent teenagers.

only two critiques are:
a) there was like 3 pages of (false!) lore spoonfed from a literal history teacher
b) introduces too many unknown words too fast.

this book is so perplexing. I am completely indifferent to the plot, and as such I don't feel the urge to pick up the book and read. but at the same time, whenever I do start reading, it captures me, and despite my lack of interest in the plot, I find it hard to put the book down (while simultaneously wanting it to stop already???)

I think it's the sheer quality of the writing. Fitzgerald has a way with words.

I like the gory and weird mysteries stuff, but its just plain boring when that stuff isn't the focal point.
