first impression: this is a novel basically about people’s thirst for experience as well as for the pleasure of the world, and the insecurity that inevitably follows from doubting the life you are living. could change though.

strether, waymarsh, madame de vionnet, are in the room with sarah for the first time and their dynamics which each other are so addictive to read through. the drama of it very much reminds me of portrait of a lady for some reason, only it takes longer to get through the sentences. pay off is worth it tho

the men have more physical touch with each other than with anyone else, i’ve noticed. they’re just casually touching knees and arms and hands
